April Lockhart

Lately it seems there is no shortage of things I want to share with the lovely readers of One Little Fin! The only shortage I have...is time!! Thankfully I have friends to keep me in the loop :)

When I was introduced to April Lockhart's music yesterday, I couldn't wait to share it here. But I had to wait...because I had no time! ;) My two little ones are keeping me very busy these days!

But after seeing just a few of April's videos I knew I had to find time to share them! She is so talented, beautiful inside & out and such a positive role model! I love her music!

Tony Memmel

So we all know you need two hands to play guitar, right?

WRONG!! That was a trick question.

And if you don't believe me, just check out Tony Memmel in action. His songs always make me smile. I like this clip because it shows a great close-up of how he plays. Not only is he extremely talented but he is self-taught!

Since it is snowing right now and tomorrow is December, this festive little song seems fitting.

P.S. I like your jammies Tony!

What I am

Just when I thought Sesame Street couldn't get any cooler...

(its Will.I.am from The Black Eyed Peas sending an awesome message about self-esteem!)

"If what I am is what’s in me
Then I’ll stay strong
That’s who I’ll be
And I will always be the best
Me that I can be
There’s only one me
I am it
Have a dream
I’ll follow it
It’s up to me to try..."

Better luck next time

Some people have been asking me about the results of the FilmPossible contest so I thought I should let people know.

Unfortunately Gavin did not make it to the finals of the contest. But I really want to thank everyone for their support! There were so many of you who took the time out of their busy lives to vote for Gavin every single day. It means a lot to us and it was a great experience. I hope we spread a lot of awareness about what children with limb differences are capable of.

No matter what, I think this will always be my favourite video :)

Gavin's ABC Remix

I took this video of Gavin in the car on the way home today. (I wasn't driving, don't worry!) This boy sure likes to sing! And make up his own words...

His Abilities

I could watch this video over and over. It makes me so incredibly proud to have such an amazing son. And these are only such a small FEW of his abilities. He has so many more! But you can only squeeze so much into a 2 minutes clip!

Hopefully we get it submitted ASAP because we will need everyone's help to vote for it! We are submitting it near the end of the contest so a lot of videos have already had lots of time to get hundreds of votes. We have a lot of catching up to do!

In Harmony

Here is a great clip of "The Little Mermaid" from Disney's Sing Along Songs. Its not from the movie so most people have probably never heard it. I guess it was orginally from the TV series. (I didn't even know there was a TV series) Anyways, it is a wonderful song about appreciating each other's differences. I love the lyrics!

What makes someone special?
I suppose it all depends
It's what's unique in each of us
That we all share as friends

The difference is our differences
Maybe small or great
Variety add spice to life
So we should celebrate

In harmony
Harmony
You're you, I'm me
Together we
Can live in harmony

If there was only one note
How boring life would be
I'm glad there are so many notes
In many different keys

I hear each voice singing
With a special quality
And when we sing together we
Bring music to the sea

In harmony
Harmony
You're you, I'm me
Together we
Can live in harmony

In harmony
Harmony
You're you, I'm me
Together we
Can live in harmony

Oriana

A very wise woman once tweeted,

"Live life with a joy that is uninfluenced by your circumstances."
- Oriana

OK, so that wise woman is my amazing friend, Oriana! But this quote recently helped me get through a very difficult day and I wanted to share it in case it could help someone else too.

This is not the first time Oriana has inspired me. She is such a beautiful, positive person. Just being around her, you can't help but smile. I love this girl and I know she is one of those incredible people who will make this earth a better place just by being here. That may seem corny but I promise you, its true!

By the way, she even taught Gavin how to blow kisses. Hows that for a claim to fame? Ha!

Here is a video of one of my favourites of her songs (and there are many!) I just love the message about what the world would be like if we judged people based on who they are inside, instead of what they look like on the outside.

"People would know what they're worth. That would be heaven on earth."

You can listen to more of her music on her website. And stay tuned for the upcoming release of her new album! (She doesn't pay me to say this stuff, I swear!)

Itsy Bitsy Spider

Gavin LOVES music. He especially loves songs with actions. His favourites are:
- If you're happy and you know it
- The wheels on the bus
- The itsy bitsy spider
- Head & shoulders, knees & toes
- Row, row, row your boat
- Roly poly

He has the Fisher-Price puppy that sings songs and says stuff. He is constantly pushing its nose to hear the itsy bitsy spider. Over and over and OVER!

So what are some other good kids songs with actions? We need to add some new ones to the rotation!
